On November 7, The Hearing and Speech Agency (HASA) will launch its first annual Shiela Applestein Memorial Lecture Series and Award Ceremony for outstanding contributions in the field of early education intervention. The inaugural event will honor Dr. Rebecca Landa, a nationally recognized pioneer and researcher in the early detection and treatment of autism.
The Hearing and Speech Agency Salvages Student Chairs for Charity

The Hearing and Speech Agency (HASA) today announced that it has rescued dumpster-bound student chairs and transformed them into a unique fundraising opportunity. The chairs, which were previously used by students of HASA’s Gateway School (a special education program for children, ages 3-12 with severe communication disorders), were destined for a dumpster when HASA relocated in 2003. At the last moment, it was determined that there was value to the chairs’ history and a potential for their future life.
The Hearing and Speech Agency to Host “A Night of Magic,” Featuring Artistry of Local Celebrities

The Hearing and Speech Agency (HASA) will host Vibe ‘07, “A Night of Magic” and imaginative art to raise funds in support of communication programs and services for people of all ages and income levels throughout Maryland. HASA expects more than 300 guests will attend Vibe ‘07 to enjoy cocktails, lite fare, live and silent auctions, a tribute to Communicator of the Year Miriam Zadek, strolling magic, as well as a show by professional magician and mind reader, Matthew Furman who has performed for celebrities, including Michael Jordan, Justin Timberlake and Donald Trump.
The Hearing and Speech Agency’s Gateway School Receives Grant from Food Lion Foundation

The Hearing and Speech Agency (HASA) today announced receiving a $5,000 grant from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation for the agency’s Gateway School, a special education program that caters to children ages three to 12 with severe communication challenges such as autism, profound hearing loss, and speech language disabilities. Gateway School will use Food Lion’s gift to help purchase instructional materials for reading and math literacy that need to be replenished annually.
